All Australian Scholarships opportunities
Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships will be awarded to people who have potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. Scholarships are provided for longer-term postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level. Applications for study in 2007 have closed.
Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Fellowships will be awarded to people who are already leaders and/or mid-career professions who have potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. Fellowships are offered for short-term research, study or professional attachments. Applications for fellowships commencing in 2007 have now closed.
The Australian Development Scholarships provide scholarships to individuals within key institutions, to undertake undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Australia in areas relevant to the development needs of their own country. ADS holders are required to return to their country of citizenship for a minimum period of two years following the completion of their scholarship to contribute to the development of their country. Under AusAID's gender/equity policy, ADS awards are allocated equally between men and women.
The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards  provide full financial support for international students for up to 3.5 years to undertake a Masters level or higher qualification either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia, which includes a semester of English language training (if required).
Endeavour Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) Awards
Endeavour Asia Awards
The Endeavour Asia Awards provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam to undertake an Australian higher degree or research in any field of study (towards a degree from your home country). Award holders must spend a minimum of one semester (four months) and a maximum of three years in Australia.
The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake research in any field of study for four to six months.
They are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to research in Australia; and
- Australia to research in China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Endeavour Malaysia Awards provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students to undertake studies in any field for a minimum of one semester (four months) and a maximum of three years.
They are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- Malaysia to undertake either an Australian higher degree or research in Australia towards a higher degree in Malaysia; and
- Australia to undertake either a Malaysian higher degree or research in Malaysia towards a higher degree in Australia.
Endeavour Awards for Turkey
The Endeavour Awards for Turkey provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students to undertake studies in any field for a minimum of one semester (four months) and a maximum of three years.
They are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- Turkey to undertake either an Australian higher degree or research in Australia towards a higher degree in Turkey; and
- Australia to undertake either a Turkish higher degree or research in Turkey towards a higher degree in Australia.
Endeavour Research Fellowships
The Endeavour Research Fellowships provide financial support for postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows:
- From participating countries to undertake short-term research, in any field of study, in Australia; and
- From Australia to undertake short-term research, in any field of study, in participating outgoing countries.
Endeavour Research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians
The Endeavour Research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians provide financial support for high achieving Indigenous Australian scholars to undertake short-term research, in any field of study, in participating outgoing countries.
Endeavour Turkey Research Fellowships
The Endeavour Turkey Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake research for four to six months.
There are fellowships in Australia for citizens/permanent residents of Turkey to research:
- Any field of study; or
- Military Studies focussing on the Gallipoli campaign of 1915; or
- Archaeology focussing on the Gallipoli campaign of 1915
And, there are fellowships in Turkey for citizens/permanent residents of Australia to research:
- Any field of study; or
- Military Studies focussing on the Gallipoli campaign of 1915; or
- Archaeology focussing on the Gallipoli campaign of 1915
The Endeavour Indonesia Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Indonesia to undertake research, in any field of study, in Australia for four to six months.
The Endeavour Iraq Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Iraq to undertake research in any field of study in Australia for four to six months.
The Endeavour Malaysia Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake four to six months research in any field.
They are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- Malaysia to research in Australia; and
- Australia to research in Malaysia.
The Endeavour Pakistan Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Pakistan to undertake research for four to six months, in any field of study, in Australia.
Endeavour Research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians
The Endeavour research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians provide financial support for high achieving Indigenous Australian scholars to undertake short-term research, in any field of study, in participating outgoing countries.
Endeavour India Research Fellowships
The Endeavour India Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake four to six months research in any field
Fellowships are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- India to research in Australia; and
- Australia to research in India.
The Endeavour AusAID Iraq Research Fellowships provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Iraq to undertake research in the field of agriculture in Australia for four to six months.
Executive Awards enable high achieving professionals in business, industry, education or government to work in an associated field for one to four months in a participating host country.
Endeavour Executive Awards are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
- Australia to go to participating countries
- Participating countries to come to Australia.
Along with applications from individuals, DEST will accept nominations from organisations for one or more people to be considered for an Endeavour Executive Award.
Endeavour Pakistan Executive Awards enable high achieving professionals in business, industry, education or government from Pakistan to work in an associated field in Australia for one to four months.
Endeavour India Executive Awards enable high achieving professionals in business, industry, education or government to work in an associated field in Australia or India for one to four months.
They are offered to:
- Australian citizens/permanent residents to go to India; and
- Indian citizens/permanent residents to come to Australia.
Important Note: Applications for Endeavour IPRS are made directly through participating higher education institutions.
Scholarships are open to international students of all countries (except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree. The Scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs for Scholarship holders, and health cover costs for their dependants.

- UMAP Programme funding is provided to Australian Universities (not students) - individual students are not eligible to apply for funding under the Australian UMAP Programme. Australian higher education institutions are eligible to apply.

The Australian UMAP Programme provides funding to Australian higher education institutions to subsidise the cost of their establishing and monitoring, and of Australian students’ participation in, UMAP student exchanges with counterpart higher education institutions in the Asia Pacific Region. Supported students are required to study full-time and for at least one semester and a maximum of two semesters.

Under the Programme, Australian higher education institutions will receive funding to subsidise the cost of their establishing and monitoring, and of undergraduate students’ participation in, eligible student exchanges with registered higher education institutions in a number of countries.
In the 2008 funding round, funding will be available to support similar arrangements in the vocational and technical education sector.
In-coming exchange students will be sourced from the following countries:
- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Yemen.
Out-going Australian students may study in the following countries:
- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Vietnam, Yemen.
Supported students are required to study full-time and for at least one semester and a maximum of two semesters in a counterpart institution under institution-to-institution student exchange arrangements.

In the 2007 round, the Programme will provide A$1 million to fund student mobility subsidies for 100 in-coming undergraduate exchange students from certain eligible Asian countries and administrative regions and a matching 100 out-going undergraduate Australian students to study in these same eligible Asian countries and administrative regions.
Two-thirds of the student mobility subsidies awarded each year are allocated to student exchanges involving links with counterpart institutions in mainland China and the Hong Kong SAR and the remaining one-third to those involving links with counterpart institutions in other eligible Asian countries. Other eligible Asian countries include: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Supported students are required to study full-time and for at least one semester and a maximum of two semesters in a counterpart institution under institution-to-institution student exchange arrangements.
The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund is currently under development. It will provide up to $20 million of Australian funding over five years commencing in financial year 2006/07 for collaborative research activities between Australia and India.
The fund will support Australian participation in scientific symposia and bilateral research projects in mutually beneficial priority research areas.
The Endeavour Language Teacher Fellowships enable trainee (pre-service) language teachers and practising language teachers in Australia to improve their language proficiency and cultural knowledge. Programmes run over three-weeks in January 2007 and most costs are covered, including return air-fares, accommodation, tuition, some meals and cultural activities.
Programmes may be held in Asia, Europe or South America. Destinations may vary from year to year subject to identified need and DFAT travel advice. Each year, from six to eight destinations are chosen from countries where one of the ten most commonly studied languages in Australian schools is spoken - Japanese, French, Chinese, German, Italian, Indonesian, Greek, Spanish, Arabic or Vietnamese.
